Sansicario is a meticulous little development on the huge Milky Way circuit
with excellent access to 400km of skiing. It's perfectly positioned at the centre
of a huge natural bowl, offering masses of skiing and good connections to Sestriere,
Sauze and Claviere. Like most purpose-built developments, its site was chosen
carefully for snow security and good slopes. The skiing is distinguished by
scenic motorways through larch woods and long, testing reds all the way to the
village.
The links to the Milky Way, one of the biggest circuits in the world, are now
very simple. To the left lies Sauze d'Oulx with its high bowl and long, sunny
intermediate runs. Off to the right is Sestriere with its World Cup pedigree
and massive scope. All the different villages have a good mixture of skiing
in their own right but the prevailing theme is friendly, recreational skiing
with the laid back-style, typical of Italy.
As one of the main hosts resorts of the 2006 Turin Olympics, Sansicario received
substantial investment to modernise the lifts and add extra snowmaking. Now
that the huge Olympic Circus has moved on, "Joe Public" gets the benefit!
Sansicario village is a small but well designed ski station. Gradually descending
galleries of apartments and a shopping precinct are all connected by covered
walkways. It's totally traffic free, so the village is relaxing and safe, and
an ideal choice for groups and families. Although serious party animals should
look elsewhere, there are a few bars, restaurants and pleasant shops.
