Vars as a popular resort with in our Equity Ski programme - we are delighted to be offering our customers the opportunity to discover one of the largest ski areas in the Southern Alps! The ski domain of neighbouring Vars and Risoul form part of the Domaine de la Foret Blanche‚ which covers 180kms of marvellous piste offering an amazing array of opportunities for all abilities of skier plus a well-equipped snowboard park for keen boarders too. A holiday here is not just about the charm and skiability, both Vars offer great value for money, enjoy glorious sunshine and benefit from a late season which is surprising for such Southern resorts.
The skiing here is very convenient thanks to the well linked lift system and you can ski between Vars and Risoul on a range of blues and greens meaning everyone can make the trip across. The views are stunning so it’s well worth taking the time to explore the whole area. All the slopes on the Risoul side return back to a central point in the village of Risoul and with a selection of restaurants and cafes this is a great place to meet for lunch. The main Vars village is Vars Les Claux, the purpose-built part, which is where our hotel is located. From here you can access the whole circuit with ease and there‚s a choice of two good lifts within 300m of our hotel.
The skiing is split over 2 huge bowls, either side of a high mountain ridge, dividing Vars from neighbouring Risoul that occupies a huge open bowl. Both areas are dominated by long blues and reds, enabling mixed groups of skiers to ski the same areas and enjoy the day together.
Beginners are well catered for as there are lots of wide, nursery slopes that are perfect for practicing turns and building confidence. Progression is fast here so once they find their snow legs then beginners will quickly head up the mountain to enjoy the good choice of easy blues.
Intermediates will find big cruisers, exciting runs through the trees and big snow bowls to keep them busy and for advanced skiers there are a variety of testing black runs. The most challenging slopes are found on the Vars side of the Crete des Chabrieres but there’s also plenty of off piste around Risoul.
Snowboarders will be happy here too with plenty of off piste and the fantastic Surfland Park under the De Cezier Chair. Here there is a Boardercross run as well as a mixture of jumps, rails and a big half-pipe.
Vars is purpose-built but it still retains plenty of charm and a laid back provencal atmosphere. Vars has everything you need including shops, bars and cafes, restaurants, après ski and non-ski choices. If you fancy venturing further afield then the pretty resort town of Briancon is about a 45 minute journey away.
Typically French with a pleasant atmosphere and human-scale buildings. Good après and non ski activities available.
