Equity in resort
Equity run hotels and chalets
Les Arcs, one of the first purpose-built ski resorts, was designed with the
clear eyed determination to banish walking, maximise ski-time and minimize down-time.
Revolutionary in its day, Les Arcs has now become the daddy of purpose-built
resorts and although it's inspired many imitators, its convenience has never
been bettered.
Les Arcs is well known for big investment and the newest addition, the Vanoise
Express, is just astounding. This huge, double-deck cable car zooms between
Les Arcs and La Plagne in only 4mins creating a colossal 425km ski area that
rivals Val d'Isere/Tignes and the Three Valleys. The good news for Equity
skiers is that this mighty beast is only one lift away so you can take full
advantage - and the lift company is still holding the price! Our Own-run hotel
and chalet are both in Peisey, a traditional village that seems a million miles
from the purpose-built ski machines of Les Arcs and La Plagne but is actually
only 5mins! It's just one lift up to Vallandry, which has some of the best skiing
on the circuit, with scenic woodland trails and sweeping blues and reds linking
immediately with the rest of this great system.
Les Arcs is famous for its deep and reliable snow. The four Arcs and Peisey/Vallandry
all link integrally and you can't see the joins. There are high, snowy bowls,
long, challenging runs, and beautiful wide slopes protected by trees. The ski
tuition is top class (Ski Evolutif was invented here) so the beginner slopes
are excellent and there are plenty of easy blues. For intermediates, over half
the 230 plus runs are graded blue or red. For advanced and experts there's tremendous
off-piste and 17 blacks with plenty of challenge including the glorious 6.8km
Aiguille Rouge, swooping down 2026m, the biggest vertical descent in Europe.
You'll see the world famous "Flying Kilometre" speed track. They'll
even let you have a go!
Peisey is an authentic mountain village with real farm buildings and real cows.
It's uncommonly pretty, even for a mountain village and it's getting popular
now. There's a sprinkling of bars and shops and a pleasant, friendly atmosphere.
One of the best bars is in our hotel. The walk-in lift is an easy walk and it
takes about 5mins to get to Vallandry. This lift is great for beginners because
they can carry their skis and use it to go up and down. The first lift is at
08.50 so there is plenty of time to get to ski school. Strong intermediates
can ski back on an unofficial off-piste trail through the trees and over 2 roads!
Arc 1600, set amongst the pines, is a purpose-built classic with all the virtues
of convenience and fabulous skiing all around. You ski above, below, and right
back to the village terrace! It's also no oil painting although it's nicer than
most of its kind and the balcony setting gives exceptional views. Arc 1600 is
fairly uncrowded and families love it. There are bars, restaurants and shops
aplenty in the covered gallery and lively Arc 1800 is a short taxi ride.
