Equity in resort
Equity run hotels and chalets
With its massive linked ski circus and traditional Austrian charm, Saalbach-Hinterglemm
is pretty much the ideal ski resort. We love it, and we're delighted to report
that because demand has been so high we have added another Own-run hotel this
year - the Hotel Karlshof.
This is one of the finest circuits in Europe with a modern lift system and every
variety of run. It's best known for the sunny cruises of Saalbach but the north-facing
slopes of Hinterglemm, as well as giving enviable snow security, also provide
some exhilarating moguls and steep blacks. Advanced skiers, like everyone else,
have plenty to ski. For beginners, there are plenty of long blues on the whole
circuit and good nursery slopes in Hinterglemm. There's a perfect snaking blue
slope with excellent snow at the mid station of the Schattberg gondola which
takes you nearly all the way back to our hotel at the end of the day. Intermediates
have a massive choice of sunny cruising, ski tours and glorious, long runs through
trees. Good skiers with thighs of steel can probably do the whole circuit in
a day, but it's a challenge! Saalbach is top for snowboarders, with fun parks,
wonderful off-piste and a sympathetic lift system.
There's a fantastic array of mountain restaurants: big ones booming with bonhomie
and loud music; wee little log cabins with traditional costume; schnapps specialists;
and some that simply serve terrific food. Quite a few are accessible to non-skiers.
Saalbach and Hinterglemm now almost run into one. Saalbach is one of the most
attractive villages in Austria and is always a nice place to be, with its classic
charm, onion-domed church and photogenic streets festooned with fairy lights.
Hinterglemm is smaller. Both are well-equipped, traffic-free villages with great
charm and fantastic après ski and nightlife. There's something for everybody.
Village Facts
A wonderful area with lots to do, good non-ski facilities and lively après
ski. Loads of bars and pubs covering the full spectrum from oompah-band traditional
to nightclub contempory. Both villages are typically Austrian. Saalbach for
glamour, Hinterglemm
for charm.
